Daydreams of Lisbon on a Sunday morning (2024)

Writer's picture: Kathy With a KKathy With a K

Yesterday, I visited Idea's Music & Books in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawaii with my friend Kainani, who is visiting from the West Coast.

While there, I spoke with Shirley, the Book Buyer and co-owner of the store with Norm (Winter). She asked about my recent travel posts on social and I said it was Portugal...wow, it has been two months since I returned and it feels like I'm overdue for another vacation hahaha!

Shirley mentioned a friend of her's that spends time in Italy, Portugal, and Brazil. I suggested what she already knew: plan that European visit!

The photo gallery below is of an afternoon in Lisboa - Lisbon - walking from the neighborhood of Principe Real and through a few streets, down to the Tagus River.

Before I went on this guided group trip, I didn't have an imagining of what the country would be like. I knew about Hawaii's connection to Portugal: early Portuguese laborers and artisans, some foods, and that it was somewhat near Morocco.

Visiting with no background of the city and general culture helped me experience everything with new senses. All the architecture, restaurants, regions, and landmarks were photo-worthy...the statues and churches...the sides of buildings. It was all significant. All the old and modern.

While different days and moments had a guideline of menus or the understanding of how something influenced another, the experience was for me a wonderful primer to Enjoy The Moments. Let the new be new as long as possible...

Below: Rua Augusta Arch. Designed by architect Santos de Carvalho. Sorry about the low resolution. IKYK the smaller a photo the faster the uploads and the gallery above has the full res images from September 2024's travels :)
